MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The call was initiated by the US side, according to the ministry's statement.
"The heads of foreign ministries continued their discussion on ways to settle the Syrian conflict, including normalization of the situation around Aleppo, taking into account the approaches in line with the previous Russian-US agreements. This will require from the United States to finally separate moderate opposition from terrorist groups," the foreign ministry said.
"Lavrov and Kerry also discussed how to contribute to the settlement of crises in Yemen, Libya, as well as separate issues on the bilateral agenda," it added.
The call took place hours after Lavrov met with foreign ministers of Iran and Syria in Moscow.
