Bolivian President Evo Morales called the Venezuelan parliament voting to begin impeachment proceedings against the country’s president a coup.

LA PAZ (Sputnik) – On Tuesday, the opposition-led National Assembly voted to initiate impeachment proceedings against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, claiming he had violated democracy, to which the president accused lawmakers of trying to stage a parliamentary coup.

"In Venezuela, a coup has arisen from the National Assembly with an unconstitutional impeachment and violent marches in the streets, with imperial support and financing. Let us defend democracy in Venezuela! NO to the right-wing coup," Morales said on Twitter on Thursday.

The following day, opposition leader Henrique Capriles initiated a large-scale peaceful protest across the country to defend the nation’s right to a referendum on Maduro's recall. Numerous people were injured, while a police officer was killed.
