CAIRO (Sputnik) — On October 17, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced the start of a military operation to recapture Mosul from Daesh, a jihadist group outlawed in Russia, with the help of airstrikes by the US-led international coalition. According to local media, about 30,000 Iraqi soldiers and 4,000 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters are taking part in the operation.
"The victory [over Daesh] in Mosul will pave the way for major national dialogue and melt the ice between the political entities. The morale, which will be brought by this victory, will contribute to this," Jabouri said on Tuesday at a meeting with the Iraqi military leadership.
According to the politician, the Daesh defeat in Mosul will mark not only a victory over the terrorists in the Nineveh province, but also put an end to group throughout Iraq.
