"[Burkhalter] voiced a number of proposals, that, in my opinion, merit Russia's attention. On my return these proposals will be obviously delivered to the country's leadership. Switzerland takes a very balanced position even speaking about sanctions. And [Burkhalter] once again emphasized the interest in development and deepening of relations with Russia as strategic ones," Matvienko told reporters.
Since 2014, relations between Russia and the West has gone downhill amid the crisis in Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly denied the allegations, warning that the Western sanctions are counterproductive and undermine global stability.
Switzerland did not join the EU sanctions against Russia.
