Russia will no longer agree with unilateral measures on Syria, Russian Envoy to the UN Vitaly Churkin said. According to political analyst Vyacheslav Matuzov, the United States is rejecting a political settlement to the conflict because it cannot influence the terrorists.

What to Expect After Russia-Bashing UNSC Emergency Meeting on Syria
"Constantly new conditions [for the cessation of hostilities in Syria] were put forward. We have always sought compromise, but ultimately this leads to the fact that the rebels and the armed groups carry out new attacks, then there was a requirement stating that the Syrian government had to unilaterally stop flights by its armed forces. And initially that was for three days and we did agree to that. Unilateral steps are something that we will not agree to any more," the Russian envoy said during his speech at a UN Security Council meeting on Sunday.

He added that currently there are numerous militants groups active across Syria.

"Syria's return to peace has become almost an impossible task," Churkin said.

UNSC Meeting on Syria is 'Another Information Attack Against Russia'
At the same time, he stressed the necessity to resume the political process settlement in Syria.

On Sunday, the UN Security Council held an emergency meeting to discuss the situation in Aleppo, where Syrian government forces are carrying out an offensive against al-Nusra Front and the so-called armed opposition groups.

The agreement between Moscow and Washington on Syria is not being observed, Matuzov told Radio Sputnik.

"We came to an agreement that there can be no alternative to the political settlement in Syria. For several months, Russia and the US worked to sign an agreement on the principles of a political solution. Finally, an agreement was made but it has not been implemented," the expert said.

According to him, the main reason is that the US policy in the Middle East is in a deadlock.

"For five years, the Americans have been creating militant groups fighting against the Syrian government. There are hundreds of such groups in Syria. Amid all the chaos they created they had to make an agreement with Russia. But when it came to the implementation of the agreement it turned out that the US cannot control the monster it created," Matuzov pointed out.

Talks on Syria Hardly Possible if US Continues to Change Stance - Russian Envoy
Recently, an unnamed senior al-Nusra Front commander told a journalist from the German magazine Focus that the group has received weapons, including BGM-71 TOW anti-tank missiles, from the US.

"The missiles were handed over directly to us. Americans are on our side," the media outlet quoted the militant commander as saying. The remarks came in response to journalist Jurgen Todenhofer's question whether any intermediaries, including the US-backed Free Syrian Army, were involved in the weapons transfers.

The US cannot admit its mistakes and does not want to do anything to fix them, Matuzov continued.

"The problem will be solved neither in the UNSC nor in Geneva. It can only be solved on the battlefield. Agreements and concessions are useless with the Americans. The US will have to abandon support for those militants groups and start negotiations. This will be peace enforcement," the analyst concluded.

US Armed Forces Apparently Do Not Obey Obama's Orders on Syria - Lavrov
The ceasefire agreement between the US and Russia was in danger from the very beginning. One of the main reasons is differences in Washington, military expert Igor Korotchenko said.

"The State Department has its own stance. But some in Washington are not interested in the agreement. Barack Obama will soon leave office and now various groups are emerging. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said that he doesn’t want any contacts and agreements with Russia. The current situation is that the president is leaving office and various groups are playing their own games," Korotchenko told Radio Sputnik.
