MOSCOW, October 26 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced his plans to abolish parliamentary immunity in Ukraine in a statement on his official Twitter account.

"Starting on Monday I will raise the issue of [introducing] proportional [electoral] system and of abolishing the parliamentary immunity," Poroshenko wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

Earlier in October Ukrainian President addressed the issue of parliamentary immunity during his visit to Dnepropetrovsk, where he mentioned that such a practice is no longer vital.

Currently the peoples' deputies of Ukraine cannot be held criminally liable, detained or arrested without the agreement of the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada.

Late in February Ukraine's parliament adopted a law cancelling the parliamentary privilege which included material aid and priority accommodation at hotels to the incumbent members of parliament.

Ukraine is currently going through a severe political and economic crisis. Kiev has lost control over the territories in eastern Ukraine and the armed confrontation between the Kiev forces and the independence supporters of self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's republics resulted in shutdown of industrial enterprises in Donbas.

The country's financial resources are exhausted and Ukraine's National Bank estimates that inflation in 2014 will reach 17 percent.

On Sunday, October 26 Ukrainians will vote in early parliamentary elections.
