Russian defense experts will train the country’s soldiers to operate the latest unmanned aerial vehicles, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

MOSCOW, May 20 (RIA Novosti) – Russian defense experts will train the country’s soldiers to operate the latest unmanned aerial vehicles, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

"The main objective of military exercises is to clarify the basic requirements and methods of providing training for UAV units and to reinforce skills ... in flight operations," the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The Russian army will spend almost 320 billion rubles ($9.2 billion) on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the period to 2020.

The first training and assembly of representatives of the Russian armed forces and industry experts on the use of drones will be convened May 21-23 at the Air Force Academy in Voronezh.

In the future, unmanned aircraft will be able to solve strategic military problems due to their stealth and greater combat stability compared to manned aircraft, Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force Lt. Gen. Viktor Bondarev said.

A number of countries, including Russia, have reconnaissance UAVs already in service, in contrast to unmanned fighting vehicles. Only a few countries can boast of having combat drones. Russia continues to develop such vehicles.
