Russian Combat Medics Begin Helping Residents of Syria's Aleppo

Russian doctors have opened a clinic, a medical ward for children, a surgery department, an intensive care department, a laboratory and an x-ray room.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian military medics have begun to consult the residents of Syrian Aleppo's eastern districts liberated from militants.

"The combat medics of Russian Defense Ministry, who have recently arrived into the region of the city of Aleppo (Syrian Arabic Republic) have began to consult and help local residents form the liberated districts in the eastern part of the city," the ministry's statement read.

According to the statement, Russian doctors have opened a clinic, a medical ward for children, a surgery department, an intensive care department, a laboratory and an x-ray room.

Aleppo has become the battleground for violent clashes between the government forces and opposition groups, with the latter holding on to a number of districts in the east of the city. The siege of Aleppo has resulted in many of its civilian residents lacking food and basic necessities, their lives threatened.
