Lavrov to Steinmeier: Al-Nusra Front Blocking Aid to Aleppo Unacceptable
17:04 GMT 25.10.2016 (Updated: 17:05 GMT 25.10.2016) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed out to his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier the inadmissibility of actions of al-Nusra Front terrorist group, as well as the groups that have joined it, of blocking humanitarian deliveries to eastern Aleppo, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The ministers discussed the Syrian settlement in a phone conversation.
"The Russian side pointed out the inadmissibility of actions of al-Nusra Front terrorists and the groups that have merged with them of blocking humanitarian deliveries to eastern Aleppo and obstructing medical evacuations from there," the statement read.
20 October 2016, 10:36 GMT
According to the statement, Lavrov and
Steinmeier agreed to maintain regular expert dialogue between the Russian and the German foreign ministries on all aspects of the Syrian settlement.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Assad fighting numerous opposition groups and terrorist organizations such as Daesh and al-Nusra Front. Since the war's beginning it has claimed lives of thousands of people and displaced millions more. The international community has undertaken steps to end the Syrian conflict and to solve the humanitarian crisis in the Middle Eastern country.
