WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against the Daesh has eliminated 18 leaders of the terror group in the past month in Iraq and Syria, Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman John Dorrian told reporters on Thursday.

The killed terrorists include three Chechen foreign fighters who supported the Islamic State’s operations in the Iraqi city of Mosul.

"In the last 30 days alone, coalition strikes have taken out 18 Daesh [Islamic State] leaders who were supporting enemy operations in Iraq and Syria," Dorrian stated in a press briefing.

The coalition has also killed Abu Jannat, the terror group’s deputy military "emir" responsible for manufacturing chemical weapons and in charge of the defense of the city of Mosul.

Two other leaders the coalition eliminated include the Daesh’s "minister" of information, known as Dr. Wail, and the "emir" of east Mosul military police Abu Bakr.

The Daesh seized Mosul, one of Iraq’s largest cities, in 2014.

The United States has repeatedly proclaimed its support for the Iraqi government to retake Mosul, and deployed US troops to help prepare Iraqi soldiers carry out the announced offensive to liberate the city from the terrorist group.

The Daesh is a designated terrorist organization that is outlawed in Russia.
