Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his grief over the death of the country's former President Shimon Peres, Netanyahu's spokesman Ofir Gendelman said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Peres passed away earlier in the day after spending around two weeks in a stroke-induced coma.

"PM Netanyahu expresses his deep sorrow over the passing of former president #ShimonPeres and will make a statement later this morning," Gendelman said in his official Twitter account.

The prime minister will also convene a cabinet meeting to mourn the president's death, Gendelman added.
