MOSCOW (Sputnik) Earlier in the day, French officials started to demolish the camp in the northern French port city of Calais with authorities expecting some 3,000 people to leave during the first day.

The incident took place early on Monday in an empty center, firefighters arrived at the scene and quickly put it down. The investigation is underway to find the arsonists.

The center in Loubeyrat is one of three in the department of Puy-de-Dome, including those in Pessat-Villeneuve and Clermont-Ferrand.

Thousands of migrants from the Middle East and North Africa were living in the so-called Jungle – notorious for its horrible living conditions, located not far from the Channel Tunnel, in hopes of reaching the United Kingdom.
