MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Kiev signed an official request to Moscow to bring back Aleksei Cherniy, who was sentenced by the Russian court to 7 years in jail for plotting a terrorist attack in Crimea, Deputy Justice Minister Sergei Petukhov said Saturday.

"[I] have just signed an extradition request to Russia for Aleksei Cherniy, illegaly sentenced there, according to his claim," Petukhov said on his Facebook page, where he also uploaded a copy of the document addressed to Russia.

On October 20, the Russian Justice Ministry confirmed Moscow's refusal to extradite to Ukraine Oleg Sentsov and Alexander Kolchenko, sentenced in August to 20 and 10 years in jail, respectively, for plotting to carry out terrorist attacks in Crimea, as they were Russian citizens. Aleksei Cherniy and Gennady Afanasyev, two more persons involved in the case, had been sentences for 7 years in jail.

According to the investigators’ version, Sentsov set up a terrorist group in Crimea, believed to be a subdivision of Ukraine's Right Sector nationalist party.

In April-May, 2014, the activists of the group carried out explosions with home-made devices in the Crimean city of Simferopol near the Eternal Flame memorial and the Lenin monument. They also set the offices of the Russian Community of Crimea public organization and the United Russia party local branch on fire, the investigative committee stated.
