NALCHIK, August 23 (RIA Novosti) - Two police vehicles have been damaged in an attack in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, the Interior Ministry has reported.

Unknown assailants detonated a bomb on the roadside when the two vehicles with police officers were passing by in the republic’s Baksansky District on Thursday evening. No one was injured in the attack.

An investigation is underway.

The Islamist insurgency, once confined largely to the republic of Chechnya, has spread across the North Caucasus in recent years. Attacks on security forces, police and civilians are reported regularly in the neighboring republics of Dagestan, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria.
