"As for whether China plays by the rules or not, I want to say that China is acting in accordance with the generally accepted rules of international trade system. This system is called the WTO. If there are some differences on trade between the two countries, these are very easy to solve. Being the two largest economies in the world, as well as members of the WTO, China and the United States can also address these issues in the WTO," Lu said, commenting on Trump's remarks.
During the 2016 presidential race, Trump accused China of currency manipulation and proposed to raise the issue of country's commitment to the WTO rules. The president-elect also vowed to impose a 45-percent tariff on imports from China, blaming the cheap imports for the loss of jobs in the United States.
