MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A group of 11 militants from the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) jihadists on Monday surrendered on the southern Philippine island of Basilan, local media reported.
According to The Philippine Star newspaper, a sub-leader of the Abu Sayyaf and a 12-year-old boy were among the militants who preferred to surrender.

The newspaper added that the group surrendered to the authorities in the town of Sumisip, saying that they were tired to continue their struggle against the government.
Abu Sayyaf, a militant Islamist group based in the southwestern part of the Philippines, is notorious for carrying out kidnappings for ransom, often targeting foreigners and sometimes beheading captives if ransom is not paid. Several factions of the group have plead their allegiance to the Daesh, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russia.
