The US government has seen information that implicates Russia and Syria as being responsible for carrying out an attack on a school in Idlib, US Department of State spokesperson John Kirby said in a briefing on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against the Daesh, Kirby continued, said it did not have any aircraft in the area during the Idlib attack, hence only Syria or Russia could be responsible.

"Information that we have… indicates that it was either Russian or Syrian [aircraft]," Kirby told reporters.

Earlier, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a briefing that Syria or Russia were responsible for the airstrike on a school in Idlib.

UN officials claimed the recent attack on the Idlib school, which killed at least 35 people, might be the deadliest since the conflict began in Syria.

According to media reports, the doctors who treated the wounded in the area said that most of the victims were female teachers and children ages 6 to 15.
