There is no progress expected in the issue of reforming the UN Security Council, the new secretary general will not influence the process, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said.

JERUSALEM (Sputnik) – According to Gatilov, the issue of feasibility of having new permanent members of the security council who would have veto power has been a stumbling block in the past 15 years.

"The prospects of reform of the UN Security Council is in no way linked to the new secretary general because this issue has been discussed for a long time … and there is no progress expected on this topic, unfortunately," he told reporters.
