NATO welcomed the results of the Joint Investigation Team's (JIT) probe into the Malaysian MH17 Boeing passenger plane crash in eastern Ukraine in 2014, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the Dutch-led JIT announced that the Flight MH17 was downed by a Buk missile system, which was brought from Russia and later returned there.

"I welcome the first results of the investigation of the Joint Investigation Team, comprised of the investigation authorities from the Netherlands, Ukraine, Malaysia, Australia and Belgium. The report sheds light on the causes and circumstances of the downing of MH17," Stoltenberg said, as quoted by NATO's press service.
