Libya Takes Huge Step Towards Reconciliation With Presidency Council
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Several members of the Libyan UN-backed Presidential Council, which heads Libya's interim Government of National Accord, arrived in Tripoli on Wednesday amid opposition by competing factions.

"We have been working with Prime Minister Serraj and the Presidency Council to put this period of divisions and rivalry behind us," NOC Chairman Mustafa Sanalla said, as quoted in a press statement published on the company's website.

The NOC also expressed support for the UN Security Council resolution 2278 passed on Thursday, which condemned illicit oil exports by parallel institutions not subordinated to the internationally recognized Government of National Accord.

Libyan Interim PM Says No Clashes Amid Unity Gov't Arrival in Tripoli
"Combined with the recent announcement by the Petroleum Facilities Guard that it intends to reopen export ports it has been blockading, I hope NOC and the country’s oil resources can provide a solid platform on which the country’s recovery can be built for the benefit of all Libyans," Sanalla added.

Violence in Libya escalated in 2014, in what has been called the second Libyan civil war. Rival factions from the Islamist-dominated General National Congress and the internationally recognized Council of Deputies have been vying for control over the country.

In December, Libya's two rival parliaments agreed to create a Government of National Accord to end the political struggle.
