DONETSK, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - Around 140,000 residents of southeastern Ukraine struggle without electricity, Fuel and Energy Minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Alexei Granovsky stated Saturday.

"As of today, 35 settlements are disconnected from electricity, which means about 140,000 residents are left without electricity," Granovsky said at a press-conference in Donetsk.

He added that "around 98 repair brigades are working in the region, and they work every day."

In mid-April, Kiev launched a military operation against independence supporters in the country’s southeastern regions.

Due to this conflict, Ukraine’s southeastern regions have witnessed a severe humanitarian catastrophe, with many citizens struggling without clean water, electricity and other basic necessities.
