KIRKENES, Norway, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - Norway joined the sanctions, imposed by the European Union against Russia because of external reasons, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated Saturday.

"These relations [between Norway and Russia] are today experiencing some stress due to the fact that Norway has joined the... unilateral measures against the Russian Federation, as we understand, for reasons lying outside Norway," Lavrov said after talks with his Norwegian counterpart Borge Brende.

Norway, which is not part of the European Union but a member of the European Economic Area, has imposed sanctions against Russia along with EU member-states, the United States, and their allies, over Moscow’s alleged involvement in the Ukrainian crisis.

According to Lavrov, Russia and Norway confirmed their mutual interest in the development of bilateral relations in different spheres.

Sergei Lavrov flew to Norway on Friday to meet with his Norwegian counterpart on the 70th anniversary of the WWII liberation of parts of northern Norway by Soviet troops.
