MOSCOW, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - The US consulate in Istanbul is working as normal despite receiving an envelope with suspicious yellow powder in it, US State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki said.

"So the facts are that the U.S. consulate general in Istanbul received an envelope containing a suspicious powder. The envelope was handled in accordance with established protocols, and appropriate U.S. and Turkish authorities are investigating. The consulate is otherwise operating normally," Psaki said Friday at a press briefing.

When asked whether or not anybody was affected by the powder, the State Department spokesperson said she was not "aware of any specific impact."

Psaki said that the embassy is working with the Turkish authorities to find out the origins of the powder.

Earlier media reports stated that western consulates in Istanbul, including those of the United States, Canada, France, Germany and Belgium, received envelopes with suspicious yellow powder in it. It was reported that upon receiving the envelope, the Canadian consulate was evacuated.
