WASHINGTON, October 23 (RIA Novosti) – Canada's capital region armed forces are temporary instructed not to wear uniform when traveling to and from work, Canada's Chief of Defense Staff Tom Lawson said in a statement on Thursday.

"On October 23, 2014 members in the National Capital Region (NCR) have been instructed to not wear their uniforms when traveling to and from their places of work. This is to be a temporary measure. The intent will be to resume wearing uniforms when transiting to and from our place of duty as soon as practicable," Lawson's statement said.

Chief of Defense Staff underlined that this order was not given lightly as Canadian armed forces members wear the uniforms with pride.

"However, with the recent attack in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu [Quebec, Canada], in which we lost Warrant Officer Vincent, and with the shooting in Ottawa today, this is viewed as an appropriate and measured response," Lawson explained.

On Wednesday morning, a gunman shot dead a soldier guarding the National War Memorial in Ottawa and then proceeded to Parliament Hill's Center Block where he was killed in a shootout with a policeman.

Two days earlier, a member of the Canadian Armed Forces was killed in a car attack in the city of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in Quebec.
