SOCHI, October 23 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will recognize the parliamentary elections in Ukraine, head of the Kremlin staff, Sergei Ivanov, said Thursday.

"It will recognize, don't worry," Ivanov told the journalists, answering the question on whether Moscow will recognize results of the Ukrainian parliamentary elections.

Ivanov also said that the elections in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DNR and LNR) may pave the way for stabilization of the current situation in Ukraine.

"Maybe after that [the elections], the process of some repairing and bringing the situation back on track will begin," Ivanov said, adding that it is inevitable that "different sides will interpret them [the elections in DNR and LNR] in different ways."

On Tuesday, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called on Russia to prevent the elections in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR, LPR). According to Kiev, Moscow's steps in this direction "would be a touchstone of its adherence to the Minsk agreements". The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has also warned that Russia is to be held responsible for the peace process breakdown in case the elections are held.

The law on special status of parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions stipulates that local elections are to take place on December 7 and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Kiev could change this date if necessary.

The leaders of the DPR and LPR have set elections of regional leaders and legislative bodies for November 2.

The early parliamentary elections in Ukraine will take place this Sunday, on October 26. Ukrainians will vote for the parliament's 424 members – 225 of them are to be elected by party lists with the election threshold set at five percent, and 199 by single-seat constituencies.
