MOSCOW, October 22 (RIA Novosti) - Bolivia will donate $1 million to the United Nations to help fight the current Ebola outbreak, Bolivian President Evo Morales announced Wednesday.

"We want to prevent the outbreak from spreading to Europe, Latin America and other countries," Morales said as quoted by the Telesur TV channel.

The international community has allocated staggering sums to help fight Ebola in West Africa and to prevent it from spreading outside the region, with the European Union planning to spend a total of more than $630 million to fight the disease, the United States committing $350 million, China spending more than $50 million, Canada some $30 million and Russia - $19 million.

Latin America is also taking an active part in the global effort to curb the disease with Venezuela donating $5 million to the United Nations on October 16 and Cuba sending more than 200 medical personnel to West Africa.

The current Ebola outbreak began in Guinea in February, and spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal, however, Senegal and Nigeria have recently been declared free of Ebola by the World Health Organization (WHO). Several cases of the disease have also been registered outside of West Africa.

According to the latest figures, released by the World Health Organization (WHO) on October 17, the current Ebola outbreak has claimed the lives of 4,555 people, with a total number of 9,216 confirmed, probable and suspected infection cases.
