WASHINGTON, October 21 (RIA Novosti) - A US hostage, held in North Korea was released on Tuesday and is currently being transported back to the United States by the Department of Defense, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest confirmed on Tuesday.

"Jeffrey Fowle has been allowed to depart the DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] and is on his way home to rejoin his family. We certainly welcome the decision from the DPRK to release him," said Earnest.

The United States is now focused on securing the release of two other detainees, Kenneth Bae and Matthew Miller, Earnest added.

"While this is a positive decision by the DPRK, we remain focused on the continued detention of Kenneth Bae and Matthew Miller and again call on the DPRK to immediately release them...the United States government will continue to work actively on the cases," Earnest said.

The White House refused to provide any further details regarding the release of the other hostages in detention.
