The US Department of State has added the terrorist, involved in the Karachi Naval base attack, Khan Said, and former doctor to Osama bin Laden Ramzi Mawafi to the Specially Designated Global Terrorist list on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON, October 21 (RIA Novosti) – The US Department of State has added the terrorist, involved in the Karachi Naval base attack, Khan Said, and former doctor to Osama bin Laden Ramzi Mawafi to the Specially Designated Global Terrorist list on Tuesday.

"The Department of State has designated Khan Said and Ramzi Mawafi as Specially Designated Global Terrorists under Executive Order 13224, which targets terrorists and those providing support to terrorists or acts of terrorism," State Department's press release said.

The order imposes a freeze on the suspected terrorists' property and interests within the United States and legally prohibits US citizens from engaging in any transactions with Said and Mawafi.

Khan Said is a senior militant commander for Mehsud, a Pakistani Taliban group based in South Waziristan. He is experienced in fighting in Afghanistan, credited with masterminding a 2012 jailbreak which resulted in the escape of 400 inmates, and believed to be involved in an attack on a naval base in Karachi. Said has publicly stated his continued commitment to terrorist activity.

Ramzi Mawafi is a long-time al-Qaeda's explosives expert, best known as the former doctor to Osama bin Laden. Mawafi escaped from an Egyptian prison in 2011, and is now believed to be coordinating militant groups and supporting violent extremist activity with money and weapons.

Executive Order 13224 is an order signed into law by US President George W. Bush on September 23, 2001 as a response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The Order provides the means to designate and block the assets of foreign individuals and entities that commit or pose a significant risk of committing acts of terrorism.
