MOSCOW, October 21 (RIA Novosti) - The hearing in the case of Russian citizen Roman Seleznev, accused by the United States of stealing and selling more than two million credit card numbers, may be postponed, his father Valery Seleznev told RIA Novosti Tuesday adding that the the case is purposefully protracted.
"If one more charge is added in November, formal one that refreshes the previous charges, technically it will lead to a new hearing, to a new process, thus giving the accusing side to protract the consideration constantly. These judicial loopholes allow to prolong the case. And we are not interested in protraction it, we say that they should present the documents, we will study them, the lawyers will look into what they have against my son," Valery Seleznev said.
"There was no proof presented on any of the 40 charges," Seleznev stressed. "There were 29 charges, another 11 were added later, sent after analyzing them, the lawyers concluded that the additional ones just transformed the previous charges, but do not transform the case," the father of the alleged cybercriminal added.
US prosecutors claim that Roman Seleznev, 30, hacked into retail point-of-sale systems and installed malicious software to steal more than 2 million credit card numbers from various businesses. On July 5, Seleznev was detained by US secret service agents in the Maldives and was brought to Guam, and later to Seattle, Washington. The Russian Foreign Ministry and Seleznev's father called the detention a "kidnapping."
