MOSCOW, October 21 (RIA Novosti) – A US freelance cameraman, who caught Ebola while working in Liberia, could be released from the Nebraska hospital, where he is being treated, in the coming days, the doctor working on the case said.

"It is going to take him a little bit of time to bounce back, but he's doing quite well," Dr. Mark Rupp said at a press conference Monday, as quoted by Reuters, adding that the cameraman "will be getting out of our unit in the coming days".

33-year-old cameraman Ashoka Mukpo was diagnosed with Ebola while working with NBC News in Liberia. He was flown to the United States on October 6 and has been getting treatment at the Nebraska Medical Center for two weeks.

The current Ebola outbreak began in southern Guinea in February and later spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Senegal, with several Ebola cases having been reported outside of West Africa, including the United States.

The first person to be diagnosed with Ebola in the United States, Liberian national Thomas Eric Duncan, died on October 8.

According to the latest estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO), in total, Ebola has claimed the lives of over 4,500 people.
