MOSCOW, October 19 (RIA Novosti) - The US Defense Department said on Sunday that it is preparing a 30-member military medical team to fight with Ebola virus in the United States.
According to Pentagon spokesperson Rear Admiral John Kirby, the team will consist of 20 critical care nurses, five specialists in infectious disease protocol training, and five doctors, who specialize in infectious diseases.
On Monday, the team meant to ensure quick response to the spread of the dangerous virus, will be sent to Texas for a week-long specialized training on infection control. After the training, the military medics will be able to assist doctors treating patients infected with Ebola.
The Ebola epidemic in West Africa broke out in southern Guinea in February, and later spread across Liberia, Sierra-Leone, Nigeria, and Senegal. Earlier this week, the WHO confirmed that the outbreak in Senegal is over.
According to the WHO, almost 9,000 cases of the Ebola virus have been reported, with the disease killing over 4,400 people so far.
The dangerous virus has already reached two other continents. Two people have been infected with Ebola in the United States, and one person caught the disease in Spain, while several others came to the US and the EU having already contracted the virus in the Ebola-hit West African countries.
