Taliban militants have recently increased amount of attacks on security posts in the eastern Logar province of Afghanistan, according to BBC report.

MOSCOW, October 19 (RIA Novosti) - Hundreds of Taliban Islamic fundamentalist militants have launched intense attacks on security posts, killing at least four soldiers in the eastern Logar province of Afghanistan, the BBC reported Sunday.

About 500 Taliban fighters also attacked the central city of Ghor with a yet unknown number of casualties, the news outlet reported.

The attacks come amid US plans to withdraw 9,800 US soldiers from the country by the end of this year, with the remaining soldiers to follow suit in 2016.

The remaining around 12,000 US soldiers will train the Afghan soldiers, aimed at eliminating the still existent al-Qaeda bases in the country.

The Taliban ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, managing to control 90 percent of the country's territory. Their support for terrorism and fundamentalism caused them to be ousted from power by US military intervention and the Afghan opposition, following the September 11 attacks.
