KIEV, October 19 (RIA Novosti) - The OSCE security organization's mission in Ukraine will deploy counter-battery radars to some eastern areas in a bid to monitor the ceasefire, Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko said late on Saturday.

"We have agreed to deploy special counter-battery [radar] stations. These radars will be operated jointly by the OSCE and operators from all sides, including Ukrainians and Russians, and will be stationed in 15 or 17 most dangerous hotspots. Their radius is up to 40-50 kilometers [25-31 miles]," the president said in an interview with several local TV channels.

"As soon as a shot is fired OSCE and operators will be able to determine where it came from," Poroshenko added.

On September 5, a ceasefire agreement was signed between the Kiev government and east Ukrainian militias, although both sides have accused each other of truce violations.

Kiev forces started fighting independence supporters in Ukraine's southeastern regions in mid-April, when Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation in response to the local residents' refusal to recognize the country's new government.
