The final decision on the extradition of the former Finance Minister of the Moscow region Alexei Kuznetsov will be taken by the French executive authorities on the basis of court recommendations, the Russian Prosecutor General's office said Saturday.

MOSCOW, October 18 (RIA Novosti) - The final decision on the extradition of the former Finance Minister of the Moscow region Alexei Kuznetsov will be taken by the French executive authorities on the basis of court recommendations, the Russian Prosecutor General's office said Saturday.

"The final decision on the extradition of Kuznetsov will be taken by the executive authorities of the state [France] in accordance with the laws of France," a statement published on the Russian Prosecutor General's official website reads.

Earlier on Saturday, the Russian Prosecutor General's office said the Court of Appeal in the French city of Lyon has approved extradition of the former Finance Minister of the Moscow region Alexei Kuznetsov to Russia.

Alexei Kuznetsov was detained on July 5, 2013, in the southern French city of Saint Tropez. The Russian Interior Ministry said that he had several fake passports on him at the time of his detention.

In Russia Kuznetsov was accused of fraud resulting in total losses of more than 10 billion rubles ($240 million).
