BEIRUT, October 16 (RIA Novosti) - Lebanon has lodged a complaint with the UN Security Council urging it to condemn Israel after an Israeli border patrol opened fire on a Lebanese army outpost earlier this month, the country's Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

Beirut said the complaint had been filed via its permanent UN representative office in New York City. It cited the October 5 incident, in which an Israeli patrol in the occupied Shebaa Farms area fired over a ceasefire line and hit a Lebanese outpost in Jabal Sadanneh, wounding a soldier and triggering a shootout.

The Shebaa Farms is a small strip of disputed land at the junction of Lebanon, Israel and Syria, and has been annexed by Israel following the 1967 conflict.

Tensions have been running high in the area, with reports of skirmishes between Israeli and Lebanese troops coming in on a regular basis. Fire exchanges break out across the UN-drawn ceasefire line, also known as "the Blue Line."
