MOSCOW, October 12 (RIA Novosti) - As thousands began evacuating from the east coast of India in the face of the approaching Cyclone Hudhud, two have been killed Sunday in separate incidences due to heavy rain in Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts triggered by the severe storm, The Hindu newspaper reported.

One victim was killed by a wall which collapsed while the other by a collapsing tree, according to information acquired by the newspaper from the state disaster management department.

“Power entirely failed in the three districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam [the regions expected to be hit hard]. Special Commissioner at the State Disaster Management Authority, K. Hymavathi was reported as saying earlier by the newspaper.

“There were gale winds. The situation is very severe. National Highway in the region has been shut,” he added.

Some 150,000 people were evacuated in the Andhra Pradesh and Orissa states on Saturday, with 400,000 more set to follow.

Hudhud is a severe storm with winds of up to 195 kilometers per hour. The cyclone is expected to cause torrential rains and landfalls.
