MOSCOW, October 11 (RIA Novosti) - Protesters demonstrating against the recent police shootings in St. Louis were confronted by riot police near Saint Louis University as they were trying to march down the main road, NBC News reported Saturday.

According to the news channel, some 200 people gathered near Saint Louis University Saturday morning to protest what they view as a series of racially motivated shootings of African-Americans by white police officers in the region.

Protesters tried to march down the main street, but were prevented by riot police in an armored vehicle, NBC News wrote.

The demonstrations follow a second fatal shooting of an African-American teenager by a white St. Louis police officer. On Wednesday evening, a 32-year-old off-duty policeman fatally shot 18-year old Vonderrit D. Meyers.

The incident took place just two months after another African-American teenager, Michael Brown, was shot and killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, a suburb of St. Louis. Brown's shooting led to massive protests, which forced Missouri Governor Jay Nixon to issue a state of emergency in the city.
