Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has asked the parliament speakers of Denmark, Ireland, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden to send observers to Ukraine's upcoming parliamentary elections, a statement published on Poroshenko's official website Friday said.

MOSCOW, October 10 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has asked the parliament speakers of Denmark, Ireland, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden to send observers to Ukraine's upcoming parliamentary elections, a statement published on Poroshenko's official website Friday said.

"Petro Poroshenko offered the parliaments of these 5 countries to send their observers to the elections to the Verkhovna Rada scheduled for October 26," the statement said.

During the talks, which took place in Kiev, the Ukrainian leader also called on Europe to "engage in providing assistance to Ukraine in the establishment of peaceful life".

On August 27, Poroshenko signed an executive order dissolving the country's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada. Early parliamentary elections in Ukraine are scheduled for October 26.
