MEXICO, October 7 (RIA Novosti) – Mexican federal forces have disarmed all police units in the city of Iguala, following a violent crackdown on protesting students by the law enforces, the country's national security commissioner Monte Alejandro Rubido Garcia said.

The official said Monday that the security in the area would be provided by federal forces, stressing that those responsible for an apparent massacre of students would be persecuted.

He added that disarmed policemen have been sent to a retraining center and their weapons are being examined for evidence of usage in the recent violence in Iguala.

Late September, a group of students, rallying against an education reform in the southern Mexican city of Iguala, has been attacked by police, accompanied by armed civilians. Six students were killed, 17 wounded and 43 are still reported missing. The authorities have detained 22 police officers, allegedly taken part in the incident.

According to Prosecutor General of Mexico's Guerrero state, Inaky Blanco, last weekend forensic experts have found clandestine mass graves on the outskirts of Iguala. The graves reportedly contained 28 bodies, too severely damaged for identification.
