Germany's public broadcaster ARD has apologized for a mistake in a story on the deaths of two civilians in the eastern Ukrainian city of Krasnoarmiysk.

MOSCOW, October 2 (RIA Novosti) - Germany's public broadcaster ARD has apologized for a mistake in a story on the deaths of two civilians in the eastern Ukrainian city of Krasnoarmiysk.

After further inspection, it was found that two civilians had been killed by soldiers from a volunteer battalion fighting for the Ukrainian authorities, and not militia, as reported by the channel's Moscow corresponded Udo Lielischkies on May 20, said Thomas Roth, host of the news program Tagesthemen.

"We regret the error and would like to apologize to our audience," the host said.

Roth noted that despite all efforts to provide accurate information, journalists covering conflicts can make mistakes.

ARD has been accused of incomplete and biased coverage of the Ukrainian conflict before. The German Telepolis magazine has called the broadcaster's news segments on Ukraine "one-sided, incomplete and biased", while ARD's own Program Advisory Board has acknowledged that reporting had been "not sufficiently differentiated" and "tended to be directed against Russia"."
