MOSCOW, October 1 (RIA Novosti) - The political situation in Hong Kong continues to remain in limbo as the pan-Democrats and the pro-Beijing Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong fail to find common ground, Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported Wednesday.
"[Chief Executive] Leung [Chun-ying] blames others to create a situation that is uncontrollable but the one who is uncontrollable is he," Charles Mok, a moderate member of the pan-democratic movement was quoted by The South China Morning Post as saying.
Agreement has not been reached for many years between the two competing political factions due to disagreements on the proposed election reforms. Now that the Hong Kong police have fired tear gas against the protesters the chances of an agreement being signed are nil, SCMP stated.
"No one is able to control the movement. Only the government can calm down the situation," Sin Chung-kai, Democratic Party legislative council member, said.
On Monday, thousands gathered in Hong Kong in support of a student demonstration by the Occupy Central movement, also known as Occupy Central with Love and Peace (OCLP), which began on September 26 in protest against Chinese government plans to control the 2017 election in Hong Kong. According to the claims of Occupy Central, China is going back on its word to maintain the city's autonomy under the "one country, two systems" formula.
