MOSCOW, September 29 (RIA Novosti) - US President Barack Obama has expressed confidence Democrats will manage to keep Senate control in the coming general elections scheduled for November 4, CBS reported.

Asked in a "60 Minutes" CBS interview whether he believed that Democrats would retain the majority in Senate in the coming elections, Obama answered: "Yes, I do."

Obama noted that the US economy is still in the process of recovery, however, unemployment and deficit have been reduced considerably since he took office in January 2009. Moreover, there has been "the longest run of uninterrupted private-sector job growth in our history," he stated.

"I can put my record against any leader around the world in terms of digging ourselves out of a terrible, almost unprecedented financial crisis," Obama said, adding that "the country is definitely better off than we were when I came into office."

In the general elections in November Republicans need to gain six seats to recapture Senate majority. In this case Obama's initiatives will have considerably less support in the last two years of his presidency.
