MOSCOW, September 28 (RIA Novosti) – The West should realize the inefficiency of ultimatums and threats toward Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview to Channel 5.

“First and foremost, it is important that our partners understand the inefficiency of ultimatums and threats. We do not lack goodwill,” Lavrov said.

Speaking of the tensions between Russian and the West, the minister said they will not last long.

Over the past few months, the United States, the European Union and their partners have introduced several rounds of targeted sanctions against the Russian economy, unjustifiably blaming Moscow for meddling in Ukraine's internal affairs.

Some Western leaders stated that sanctions will be lifted once Russia starts to follow their strategy in Ukraine, while Moscow said that no measures will ever change its political course.

Russia has repeatedly denied any involvement in the Ukrainian conflict and said that sanctions "threaten international peace and stability" and run counter to the principles of international law.
