MOSCOW, September 25 (RIA Novosti) - European economic sanctions against Russia are dangerous for Europe's economy as they result in strengthening ties between Russia, China and India, Giovanni Toti, an adviser to Italy's former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi told International Information Agency Rossiya Segodnya.

"Irresponsible EU decisions are resulting in Russia getting dangerously close with China and India, whose commodity markets are way more attractive than the European market, which in fact has already used up its potential," Toti said.

He added that, the European sanctions against Russia are "useless and unfair" and cause serious damage to Italian businesses and families.

According to Toti, the European Union should drop its economic sanctions against Moscow and start dialogue as is usually the case with regional-level crises, "especially as the matter concerns the interests of one of the world's two superpowers."

"The European Parliament should exert pressure on the European Council and the European Commission for them to call off the sanctions, begin the dialogue and send a high-level delegation to Moscow for talks with President Putin on achieving truce and resolving the conflict in a fair way," Toti said.

The West has introduced several rounds of economic sanctions against Russia, over Moscow's alleged role in the Ukrainian crisis, targeting its energy, banking and defense sectors. Moscow was prompted to respond with the adoption of a one-year ban on the import of certain food products made in the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia and Norway.

The latest round of Western sanctions against Russia was imposed on September 12.
