Tropical Storm Rachel Forms off Mexico Coast

The Rachel tropical storm is forming off the Pacific coast of Mexico, the 17th storm in 2014 in the Eastern Pacific Basin, The Weather Channel reported.

MOSCOW, September 25 (RIA Novosti) – The Rachel tropical storm is forming off the Pacific coast of Mexico, the 17th storm in 2014 in the Eastern Pacific Basin, The Weather Channel reported.

The storm formed on Wednesday night just 300 miles from the coast of Mexico. Rachel is forecast to move in the west-northwest direction in the coming days and poses no immediate threat to the Mexican state of Baja California or to southwest Mexico.

The storm is moving west at 19 kilometers per hour (11.8 miles per hour). The weather phenomenon has maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, with gusts of up to 85 mph.

A tropical storm is an organized system of strong thunderstorms with a defined surface circulation and maximum sustained winds of between 34 knots (39.14 mph) and 64 knots (73.94 mph).
