Yemeni’s new prime minister will be appointed later on Wednesday, as Mohammed Salim Basindawa left office the day before, an official source told RIA Novosti.

SANAA, September 24 (RIA Novosti) – Yemeni’s new prime minister will be appointed later on Wednesday, as Mohammed Salim Basindawa left office the day before, an official source told RIA Novosti.

“New prime minister will be named today in Yemen,” the source said.

"We are considering a lot of contenders. Current head of the Arab Labor Organization Ahmed Luqman, former Minister of Higher Education Dr. Saleh Basurra and Sanaa City Mayor Abdul-Qader Hilal have better chances among them,” he said.

The government source added that former government officials, such as President of the General Federation of Unions Arab Inventors Dr. Khaled Nashwan, are also vying to become the Yemeni prime minister.

Basindawa resigned Tuesday amid riots that have swept the capital of the country.

Shiites have been protesting against the incumbent government since mid-August.

Hundreds of residents were forced to flee the capital of the country for fear of escalation in violence. A curfew was imposed Saturday in four areas of Sanaa due to the riots.
