MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - US city of Ferguson witnesses more protests, arrests after a memorial to Michael Brown, African-American teenager shot by a police officer in August, was destroyed in fire, USA Today reported Wednesday.

According to the newspaper, on Tuesday night a crowd of approximately 200 people gathered at a site where numerous mass protests were held following the shooting of the 19-year-old by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.

That night the city’s authorities registered a break-in of a beauty supply store and a possible arson of a local cafeteria. At least two protesters were arrested.

Makeshift memorial to Brown burned earlier on Tuesday and Ferguson police said it began investigating the causes of this incident. The locals have rebuilt the memorial soon after the fire. The protesters believe that the memorial has been set on fire intentionally.

In August, Ferguson was swept by a wave of violent protests following the death of Michael Brown, as the suburb's residents demanded the arrest of the police officer who shot at him.

To suppress the protests, Ferguson police officers used armored vehicles, high-technology weaponry and stun grenades, according to media reports.
