MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - Sanctions imposed by Western countries against Russia are unlikely to have far-reaching consequences unless they are stricter, presidential aide Sergei Glaziev said Wednesday.

"I see no terrible effect from sanctions in the next 3-5 years if they don't get worse. For regions, we can talk of risks for energy companies, oil companies. But the state assures they can manage, we'll see," Glaziev, Russian President Vladimir Putin's adviser on regional integration, said at a press conference at Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency.

A new round of sanctions against Russia for its alleged role in the Ukrainian crisis was introduced by the European Union and the United States on September 12.

New EU sanctions curb access to Western financial markets for some of Russia's largest firms and target banks, arms manufacturers, the country's leading oil company, Rosneft, as well as the crude subsidiary of state-owned energy giant Gazprom.

Russia has condemned the restrictions, accusing Brussels of being unwilling to recognize Moscow's peacemaking efforts in Ukraine.
