Palestinians want to know when their state will be established, and that will serve as a prerequisite for finding a permanent solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Fayed Mustafa told RIA Novosti Wednesday.

MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti), Daria Chernyshova - Palestinians want to know when their state will be established, and that will serve as a prerequisite for finding a permanent solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Fayed Mustafa told RIA Novosti Wednesday.

“The international community must accept our idea for ending this occupation. The Palestinians want to know when their state will be established. Within a year, two years – but we have to know. The way for finding a solution must be changed,” the ambassador said.

He noted that Palestinian Authority has agreed to a two-state solution, which calls for two states for two peoples and envisages an independent State of Palestine and the State of Israel.

“But we feel that Israelis are not that serious about achieving this solution. They are continuing to steal our land, build settlements and that gives us a signal that they are trying to continue occupation and not to find a solution to this conflict,” Fayed Mustafa told RIA Novosti in an exclusive interview.

“Without establishing a Palestinian state there will never be peace in this region. So this is what we are now saying and what our president will talk about at the General Assembly. We have to stop talking about peace and we have to fix date for ending this occupation. And Palestinians have to know when this occupation will end,” the ambassador said, adding that the negotiations have lasted for more than 25 years.

The current talks between Israeli and Palestinian officials about the Gaza Strip focus on the humanitarian situation, which is not a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in general.

“Even if we solve the problem about the Sector Gaza, we will not solve the Palestinian problems in general, because it is a political problem, not a humanitarian one,” Fayed Mustafa said.

The Middle East Quartet - the United Nations, the United States, the European Union, and Russia - is due to meet during the United Nations General Assembly’s session in New York.
