Ukrainian refugees have been leaving Russia to return to their homes in recent weeks, according to Russian Presidential Administration chief Sergei Ivanov.

KURILSK (Sakhalin Region), September 24 (RIA Novosti) – Ukrainian refugees have been leaving Russia to return to their homes in recent weeks, according to Russian Presidential Administration chief Sergei Ivanov.

"In the recent weeks we have noticed the process of return of a part of the Ukrainian refugees to southeastern Ukraine – Donetsk and Luhansk regions," Ivanov said at a meeting with residents of Kurilsk on Wednesday.

Ivanov noted that all the refugees have been given a warm welcome in the Rostov Region, which he saw personally. The official also recommended that employers of refugees should provide their families with rented housing. At the same time, refugees do not have to acquire Russian nationality and may work, keeping their refugee status, Ivanov added.

Paul Picar, head of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe mission in Rostov Region, reported earlier that Ukrainian refugees had started to leave Russian territory for their homes. Prior to the ceasefire agreement between Kiev and independence fighters, the number of refugees crossing the Russian border daily in both directions amounted to 6,500, according to Picar. By September 8 this number reached 10,000. Up to 2,500 refugees are returning to Luhansk Region every day, Luhansk People's Republic head Igor Plotnitskiy reported.

The inflow of refugees from southeastern Ukraine has increased dramatically since June, given the ongoing fighting between pro-independence fighters and Kiev security officials. Rostov Region has been welcoming to the influx of more than 50,000 Ukrainian refugees.

According to the Russian Federal Migration Service, around 820,000 Ukrainian residents have entered Russian territory since April 1.
